{"id":8487,"date":"2025-06-03T15:48:40","date_gmt":"2025-06-03T15:48:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cedis.me\/uncategorized\/record-high-system-reliability-indices-last-year\/"},"modified":"2026-10-08T21:36:49","modified_gmt":"2026-10-08T21:36:49","slug":"record-high-system-reliability-indices-last-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cedis.me\/en\/latest-news\/record-high-system-reliability-indices-last-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Record-high system reliability indices last year"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The SAIDI (System Average Interruption Duration Index) was reduced by around 35 per cent compared to the previous year, while the SAIFI (System Average Interruption Frequency Index) was reduced by around 21 per cent<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The reliability of the electricity distribution system is one of the key topics in electricity distribution. The SAIDI (average annual duration of supply interruptions per customer) and SAIFI (average annual frequency of supply interruptions per customer) indicators are among the most important indicators used in planning, construction and refurbishment of the distribution network.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As the distribution system operator, CEDIS is required, pursuant to the Rules on Minimum Electricity Quality Standards, which define the standard and guaranteed levels for these indicators, to monitor and publish the SAIDI and SAIFI reliability indicators for the system as a whole on its website every year.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A review of the reliability indices for the period from 2018 to 2024 shows that this was a record year in terms of quality parameters. The final figures show the following trends:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Compared to 2023, SAIDI decreased by 13.81 hours (34.88%), while SAIFI decreased by 5.5 (20.79%).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Compared to 2022, the previous record year, SAIDI decreased by 3.44 hours (11.77%), while SAIFI decreased by 2.81 (11.82%), or approximately 12%.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The improvement in this area is primarily the result of investments across the entire system, including the replacement of old and worn-out equipment, the refurbishment of existing facilities and construction of new ones, and the revitalisation of the medium- and low-voltage networks. Excellent coordination between the Network Operations Sector and the Maintenance Sector also contributed to these results, ensuring that scheduled annual overhauls made the most of planned de-energised periods. These claims are reflected in the unplanned SAIDI attributable to CEDIS (faults caused by poor maintenance, ageing components, incorrect component settings, etc.), which stood at 8.87 hours in 2024, a significantly better figure than the 11.03 hours recorded in the previous record year, 2022. The efficient use of de-energised periods is reflected in planned SAIFI, meaning that fewer customers were affected by planned network works aimed at further improving system reliability. This parameter stood at 4.07 interruptions per customer in 2024, also a record figure.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This result was achieved in 2024 despite the blackout that affected the region on 21 June 2024 as a result of events in the transmission system, namely the European interconnection. This single event accounted for as much as 5.5% of the total annual SAIDI. CEDIS responded quickly and managed its crews and equipment efficiently, enabling the rapid restoration of electricity supply. Unplanned interruptions attributable to CGES, which are largely caused by problems (outages) on the transmission network, resulted in the highest SAIDI value since 2020.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The relevant sectors note that weather conditions were also favourable last year, resulting in significantly fewer prolonged emergency conditions, particularly on overhead lines, which allowed the aforementioned projects to be carried out. This positive trend must continue, through further investment, primarily in network automation using SCADA and SMART GRID systems, as well as even better coordination among the Operations, Maintenance, Development and Investment departments. This will involve identifying the system\u2019s \u201cweak points\u201d and investing in them, and aligning network maintenance plans at all voltage levels to minimise planned outages requiring de-energisation.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since the \u201cMethodology for Determining the Regulatory Allowed Revenue and Price for the Use of the Electricity Distribution System\u201d stipulates that target SAIDI values will be set from 2026 and that our regulatory allowed revenue will also depend on the relationship between actual and target values, the importance of improving these parameters is even more evident.
