<\/p>\nIn light of statements made by representatives of certain political parties regarding the decision by the Government and Elektroprivreda Crne Gore to reduce the amounts of invoices for the procurement of electricity for the Montenegrin Electricity Distribution System (CEDIS) for the period from April to the end of 2021, we hereby inform the public as follows:<\/p>\n

Aware of the consequences that could arise from disruptions to the electricity market due to the soaring prices on the exchange, CEDIS management addressed the Ministry of Capital Investments, EPCG and the public on several occasions during 2021. The energy crisis affected distribution system operators most severely, as their activities are regulated, and intensive efforts were made to find solutions to mitigate the consequences of the crisis. A factor that certainly made matters more difficult for CEDIS was the price set by the Regulatory Agency for Energy of EUR 53.392 per MWh to cover losses. Anyone who takes an objective view of the situation will understand that no one at CEDIS could have influenced the price of electricity on the exchange, which last year was five to 15 times higher than the amount set by RAE. To cover losses for the period from April to December 2021, CEDIS needed to procure approximately 250,000 MWh at an average market price of almost EUR 94, which could ultimately have resulted in a loss of around EUR 10 million for CEDIS. However, together with EPCG, which owns 100 per cent of CEDIS, and the relevant ministry, we sought a solution that would not burden our customers and would ensure the uninterrupted operation of the electricity distribution system.<\/p>\n
We have said this many times, but let us repeat it once more for those who do not hear or do not want to hear: the only reason the Electricity Distribution System of Montenegro found itself in a situation where it could have ended 2021 with a loss was the energy crisis, specifically the soaring price of electricity on the exchange. This is precisely what disrupted the operations of many electricity companies in Europe, which received state support and assistance to overcome the crisis.<\/p>\n
What makes us glad as a Company is that a solution has been found to overcome this global problem in the least disruptive way, first and foremost for customers and the energy sector, without introducing restrictions or increasing electricity prices.<\/p>\n
Dear politicians, intensive efforts were made to resolve this problem so that no one would feel the consequences of what is happening in the world, which is beyond the control and power of all of us at CEDIS. Instead of welcoming the fact that the least disruptive solution has been found\u2014one that will neither put our customers at economic risk nor undermine the stability of energy companies\u2014you are attempting to drag CEDIS into a political game, without considering the facts and arguments and, clearly, in the spirit of a political campaign, by criticising a solution that deserves praise.<\/p>\n
Without wishing to engage in a debate with you, we are obliged to state, for the benefit of the public, that CEDIS will continue to act in the interests of its customers, as well as all employees, who are the strength of this Company. CEDIS, as a responsible company, and its management will work together with EPCG and the relevant ministry to overcome all the difficulties brought about by the energy crisis until electricity prices on the market return to normal.<\/p>\n
