The Montenegrin Electricity Distribution System once again appeals to citizens to refrain from burning collected weeds while clearing their properties, as these reckless actions often get out of control due to carelessness, leading to large-scale fires that threaten electricity infrastructure and cause prolonged interruptions to customers’ electricity supply, in some cases lasting up to 20 hours.
Despite our previous appeals, several fires are currently burning across Montenegro, threatening once again to damage the distribution network and cause further interruptions to electricity supply.
Our crews, who are making every effort to maintain the stability of the electricity distribution system and ensure that every customer has a reliable electricity supply, have been dealing with this problem for some time, making an already difficult job even harder.
Since 1 March, they have replaced more than 120 poles of various types, worth around €40,000, which were destroyed by fires in the municipalities of Podgorica, Danilovgrad, Tuzi, Nikšić, Plužine, Kolašin, Mojkovac, Bijelo Polje, Berane, Petnjica, Pljevlja and Šavnik. In some cases, they needed more than 20 hours of additional work to repair the damage caused by the fires and restore normal electricity supply to customers.
We therefore ask residents to refrain from these activities, especially near electricity infrastructure, so as not to endanger themselves or others or make the work of our crews more difficult. They are making every effort to maintain the stability of the electricity distribution system during this exceptionally difficult time, when public health is exposed to numerous risks.
