In these exceptionally difficult days for the entire world, CEDIS crews are facing a new problem that makes their already difficult task of maintaining the stability of Montenegro’s electricity distribution system in these challenging times even harder. In the municipalities of Pljevlja, Berane and Šavnik, local residents have been burning meadows over the past few days. These reckless actions cause fires that inevitably endanger overhead power lines and the low-voltage network, as these facilities in rural areas are mostly built on wooden poles. This results in prolonged power outages for customers in those areas.
As a result, fires in meadows caused damage that led to the outage of the 35 kV overhead line “Židovići-Šumani-Odžak-Kosanica”, which supplies a large number of customers. There were also significant problems due to the threat to the 10 kV overhead lines “Borovice”, “Krupice”, “Orlja”, “Komini” and “Boljanjci”, and the low-voltage network serving the village of Kovač was also damaged.
The fires destroyed around 10 supporting poles and one A-type pole. As a result, some villages were left without electricity for more than 20 hours. CEDIS crews managed to repair all the damaged poles, and all customers currently have a regular electricity supply.
However, there are many fires in rural areas of the municipalities of Pljevlja and Šavnik that have not yet been extinguished and could cause further problems on the distribution network and lead to new power outages.
We ask local residents to refrain from these activities, especially near electricity infrastructure, so as not to endanger themselves and others or make the work harder for our crews, who are making a superhuman effort to maintain the stability of the electricity distribution system in this exceptionally difficult period, fraught with risks to public health.
