Yesterday, CEDIS’s Training Centre hosted a presentation and lecture for second-year postgraduate students of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering on “Smart Meters”, while the Network Management Sector delivered a lecture on “Management in Distribution Systems”.
The features and advantages of multifunctional metering devices were presented to the students by our engineer Miloš Mirković, while Dragan Cicmil delivered the lecture on managing the electricity distribution system.
The students thus had the opportunity to supplement the knowledge acquired in specialist theoretical courses through training and presentations in a real working environment. Our company offers excellent conditions for professional internships and lectures that contribute to the quality of education and prepare students for the labour market. Thanks to their many years of experience and expertise, our engineers tailored the lectures in both scope and content to the students.
Mirković familiarised them with the process of measuring electricity consumption and the importance of this aspect of distribution activities, as well as the transition from traditional to smart meters and the capabilities and technical configuration of multifunctional metering devices, which have brought numerous benefits to both customers and distribution system operators. He also demonstrated how this advanced digital technology has contributed to improved network management and modernisation, reduced electricity losses, increased meter-reading rates, and more successful disconnections from the network due to unpaid electricity bills.
Cicmil presented the organisation of the Network Management Sector, including the work of the Local Network Management Centre, the Operational Network Management Service, and the Network Operations Planning and Analysis Service. The students had the opportunity to see what real-time management on the 35 kV side looks like, as well as the hazards and responsibilities involved in the work of an operational dispatcher at CEDIS.
The students were also presented with plans to improve the distribution system and the Network Management Sector through the implementation of a SCADA system. It was explained that the Dispatch Centre could not function without the Local Network Management Services, the Maintenance Sector and the Metering Sector, as planned and emergency works are coordinated to ensure the most reliable and high-quality electricity supply for customers.
