Work on the construction of the 35/10 kV “Novi Ulcinj” substation in the Pinješ 2 neighbourhood in Ulcinj, which is a necessary infrastructure prerequisite for further tourism development in Montenegro’s southernmost municipality, is progressing as planned.
Construction work is currently under way on this infrastructure facility, which is scheduled for completion by 31 December.
As a reminder, “Novi Ulcinj” will have an installed capacity of 2 x 8 MVA and a total of five 35 kV bays, while the 10 kV switchgear will have 13 bays, eight of which will be outgoing bays.
The substation will be equipped with state-of-the-art integrated microprocessor protection. Substation control will be local, while in the future this infrastructure facility will also be capable of being operated remotely from the Dispatch Centre.
The substation will directly supply 3,073 households in the areas of Pinješ, Nova Mahala, Metriz, Prisan, Stari Grad, as well as the “Albatros”, “Mediteran” and “Holegro” hotels. Around 5,500 consumers in the town centre will also benefit from improved supply, as the “Grad” substation, which has been overloaded during the peak season for years, will be relieved. The summer overloading of the overhead line from the “Kodra” substation to the “Grad” substation will also be resolved; it is a consequence of uncontrolled construction in the area.
The implementation of this project, valued at around two million euros, also includes the construction of three 35 kV connection cables and seven 10 kV cable lines. CEDIS is financing the entire project from its own funds.
In addition to building the new 35/10 kV substation and its associated network, an investment of one million four hundred thousand euros is planned in Ulcinj during this year and next for the construction of new cable lines. The construction of new 10/0.4 kV substations, valued at 260,000 euros, and the reconstruction of 22 existing substations, valued at around 300,000 euros, are also planned.
The reconstruction of the 35/10 kV “Velika plaža 1”, “Velika plaža 2” and “Grad” substations is also planned, with around 200,000 euros to be invested.
These investments will significantly improve the quality of the local electricity distribution system.
