Construction of the “Velje Brdo” substation to begin soon

The Montenegrin Electricity Distribution System has concluded a contract worth one million and 16 thousand euros for works on the construction of the 35/10 kV “Velje Brdo” substation. The project includes construction of a new substation building, installation of 35 kV and 10 kV air-insulated switchgear, installation of transformers (35/10 kV 2 x 2.5 MV), and integration of the substation into the existing network. The works will be carried out by “Eminent” doo Podgorica, with subcontractors “Eurozox” and “GEOTIN MNE”.

Construction of this facility is expected to directly improve the quality of electricity supply for around 1,300 customers in the areas of Rogami, Velje Brdo, Vranjske Njive, Miletine Njive, Drezga, Radeća, part of Zagorič, Piperi … Better supply is also expected for around 300 customers in the areas of Stara Zlatica, Smokovac and Doljani.

The infrastructure importance of the new substation is particularly significant given the multi-year trend of an increasing number of customers on the distribution network in these areas. It will also create opportunities to develop the 10 kV network and connect new individual and residential-commercial buildings.

Accordingly, implementation of this project will resolve the problem of overloading on the long and unreliable “Danilovgrad” and “Vojni logor” overhead lines, while establishing a new supply point is also a prerequisite for relieving the existing 35/10 kV “GORICA-B” substation. The “Danilovgrad” overhead line will be reorganised into three new, significantly shorter 10 kV feeders, thereby achieving a higher level of security and quality in the electricity supply for customers in the area from Zagorič to Velje Brdo.

We expect the “Velje Brdo” substation to be commissioned by the end of the year.

In addition to this project, CEDIS recently began implementing the project to reconstruct the 35/10 kV “Kumbor” substation by signing a contract worth one million and 800 thousand euros with Electro Team from Budva. In parallel, the Montenegrin Electricity Distribution System is implementing projects worth 50 million euros to revitalise the medium- and low-voltage networks. These projects include replacing worn-out sections of overhead lines and substations, and installing new network components in rural areas of Montenegro.
