Construction of the “Velje Brdo” substation underway

Work on the construction of the 35/10 kV “Velje Brdo” substation, valued at €1.16 million and launched at the end of last month, is progressing as planned. The construction of this facility is expected to directly improve the quality of electricity supply for around 1,300 customers in the areas of Roga, Velje Brdo, Vranjske Njive, Miletine Njive, Drezga, Radeća, part of Zagorič, Pirep… Improved supply is also expected for around 300 customers in the areas of Stara Zlatica, Smokovac and Doljani.

The infrastructure importance of the new substation is particularly significant given the multi-year trend of increasing numbers of distribution network customers in these areas. It will also enable the development of the 10 kV network and the connection of new individual and residential-commercial buildings.

The project includes the construction of a new substation building, the installation of 35 kV and 10 kV air-insulated switchgear, the installation of transformers (35/10 kV, 2 × 2.5 MVA), and the integration of the substation into the existing network. Construction work on the building is currently underway. Since 19 February, when the contractor was officially instructed to commence work, the building foundation, concrete transformer oil containment pits and basement cable space have been completed, while construction of the partition wall between the transformers is in progress. The contractor is “Eminent” doo Podgorica, with subcontractors “Eurozox” and “Geotin MNE”.

The facility is scheduled to be commissioned by the end of this year.

This project will resolve the problem of overloading on the long and unreliable “Danilovgrad” and “Vojni logor” overhead lines. The establishment of a new supply point is also a prerequisite for relieving the existing 35/10 kV “GORICA-B” substation. The “Danilovgrad” overhead line will be reorganised into three new, significantly shorter 10 kV feeders, thereby improving the security and quality of electricity supply for customers in the area from Zagorič to Velje Brdo.

In addition to this project, CEDIS is currently implementing several projects on the primary network: construction of the 35/10 kV “Duklo” substation, installation of 10 kV switchgear at the 110/10 kV “Kličevo” substation, and refurbishment of the 10 kV switchgear at the 35/10 kV “Centar” substation in Podgorica. The refurbishment of the 35/10 kV “Kumbor” substation is in its final phase. Around €5.6 million has been allocated for these investments. At the same time, work is underway as part of the second year of projects to revitalise the medium- and low-voltage networks in rural areas across Montenegro. The value of contracted works under the revitalisation projects is around €26 million.
