Montenegrin Electricity Distribution System has successfully completed a €2.6 million project to replace conductors on four 35 kV overhead lines supplying electricity to parts of the municipalities of Herceg Novi, Budva, Bar and Ulcinj. The work carried out is of exceptional importance for ensuring a more reliable and higher-quality electricity supply for more than 28,000 customers in this popular tourist area, particularly during the summer peak-load season. It also creates the conditions for constructing new power facilities and connecting new customers.
On the 10.3 km-long 35 kV overhead line “TS 110/35 kV Bar – TS 35/10 kV Sutomore”, the existing conductor was replaced with a new one (HTLS-class ACCC) with at least 40% greater transmission capacity. This has created the conditions for ensuring a reliable, high-quality electricity supply to the areas of Sutomore, Đurmani and Čanj. The work on this overhead line was valued at approximately €1.3 million.
The conductor was also replaced on the 35 kV overhead line “TS 110/35 kV Ulcinj – TS 35/10 kV Velika Plaža 1”, ensuring a higher-quality electricity supply for customers in the hinterland of Velika Plaža and Ada Bojana. The project also covered the 35 kV overhead lines “TS 110/35 kV Markovići-TS 35/10 kV Miločer” and “TS 110/35 kV Podi-TS 35/10 kV Topla”. This improved the quality of supply and increased capacity for connecting new facilities in parts of Budva (parts of Bečići, Kamenovo, Sveti Stefan, Petrovac and Buljarica), as well as in parts of the Herceg Novi municipality (Sutorina, Njivice, Žvinje, the Industrial Zone, Ratiševina, Sušćepan, Trebesin, Mojdež, Gomila, Igalo centre, Tatar bašta, Novosadsko, Stanišića Dubrava, Topla (1, 2 and 3), the Health Centre, the Dr Simo Milošević Institute, and the Debeli Brijeg and Konfin border crossings). CEDIS allocated approximately €1.3 million for work on these three overhead lines.
“We have achieved a great deal with this investment. In particular, transmission capacity constraints have been overcome, and an additional level of security and quality in the electricity supply has been ensured for a very large customer base and popular tourist areas visited by tens of thousands of tourists during the summer season. We have also resolved capacity constraints affecting the connection of new power facilities and a large number of significant tourist and residential-commercial buildings that are currently under construction. It is also important to note that a high-quality alternative supply has been provided for certain areas,” representatives of CEDIS said.
The work on this project was carried out by Elektro Team doo Budva.
In addition to this project, CEDIS is currently working on several other major projects: constructing the 35/10 kV “Velje Brdo” substation, building a 10 kV switchgear facility at the 110/10 kV “Kličevo” substation, and refurbishing the 10 kV switchgear at the “Centar” 35/10 kV substation in Podgorica. The refurbishment of the “Kumbor” 35/10 kV substation is in its final phase. Preparatory work is also under way for construction of the “Duklo” 35/10 kV substation in Nikšić. Approximately €5.6 million has been allocated for these investments. At the same time, work is under way as part of the second year of projects to rehabilitate the medium- and low-voltage networks in rural areas throughout Montenegro. The value of contracted work on the rehabilitation projects is approximately €26 million.
