The medium-voltage and low-voltage network rehabilitation project being implemented by CEDIS is one of the most significant investments in the distribution system in recent decades and will significantly encourage positive developments in municipalities in the north, stated the Minister of Economy Dragica Sekulić, who today, together with representatives of CEDIS and the Contractor, visited the section of the “Dolac” overhead line in Berane, where reconstruction is under way.
Sekulić said she was particularly pleased with compliance with the planned schedule for carrying out the works, and added that she believed that, following the completion of this project and CEDIS’s other investment activities planned for the next three years, users of the distribution system in Montenegro would receive a significantly higher-quality electricity supply, especially in rural areas.
– Under its three-year investment plan, CEDIS is to invest around €80 million in the primary and secondary networks in Montenegro, of which around €50 million will go towards the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the existing network and €30 million towards the construction of new distribution facilities – Minister Sekulić said, adding that this project was certainly the largest investment in the distribution system since the 1980s.
Around €12.4 million has been allocated for the first year of works under the Rehabilitation Project to reconstruct seven 10 kV overhead lines. Work is currently under way on the “Grahovo” overhead line in Nikšić, “Bijela” in Šavnik, “Gubavač” in Bijelo Polje and “Dolac” in Berane, while work is expected to begin soon on the remaining overhead lines (“Slap Zete” in Danilovgrad, “Krute” in Ulcinj and “Tomaševo” in Bijelo Polje).
– It is important to note that, through the Rehabilitation Project, CEDIS and the Government of Montenegro are demonstrating their commitment to taking a strategic approach to the distribution system. In other words, we have moved from addressing the consequences of problems to strategic planning and the construction of distribution facilities and networks – said Zoran Đukanović, Executive Director of CEDIS.
Đukanović also said he was pleased that the project was being implemented in cooperation with reputable companies from Montenegro, which would continue to support CEDIS in projects of this and a similar nature. He also expressed his gratitude to customers for their patience during supply interruptions, which are a necessary part of implementing the project. He said that customers had been more than patient despite frequent electricity supply interruptions caused by the inadequate quality of the network in the past. He stressed his confidence that, following the completion of this and CEDIS’s other projects, the quality of supply in rural areas would improve significantly.
We remind you that the works are being carried out by a consortium comprising the Montenegrin companies “Mezon” d.o.o. Danilovgrad, “Electro Team” d.o.o. Budva and “Ramel” d.o.o. Nikšić, with which a framework agreement was signed in December last year for a period of 24 months for the needs of the project to rehabilitate the medium-voltage (MV) and low-voltage (LV) electricity networks.
– I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Government of Montenegro and CEDIS for launching projects of this and a similar nature, giving domestic companies the opportunity to employ a significant number of young people and thereby enable them to develop their skills in fields that have become in short supply, not only in our country but throughout the region – said Miroslav Milović, the Consortium’s representative.
– In the past, we have had significant problems with electricity supply, particularly in rural areas, so this important investment will go a long way towards resolving the problems faced by the people of Berane. Given the importance of a high-quality electricity supply, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in this undertaking, which is extremely important for our municipality – stressed Dragoslav Šćekić, President of the Municipality of Berane.
We remind you that the project will include the reconstruction of 910 km of network and 14,200 pole locations at medium voltage, as well as around 510 km of network and 14,570 pole locations at low voltage.
Households supplied by sections of the network where works are being carried out are given detailed information about the project and its expected benefits directly in the field, and are notified in good time of scheduled electricity supply interruptions.
