Million-Euro Projects in the Capital

Since the beginning of the year, six 10/0.4 kV substations have been built and commissioned in the Podgorica area, at a cost of approximately €520,000. Two more facilities, with a combined value of approximately €270,000, are expected to be commissioned soon (the 10/0.4 kV substation under the “University Centre” DUP and the 10/0.4 kV substation under the “Block 35-36” DUP).

The construction of new facilities, particularly in the urban area of the Capital, is largely driven by the expansion of the customer base, i.e. an increase in the number of new users. In addition, the newly built facilities significantly improve the security and quality of electricity supply and reduce the load on the existing electricity distribution network.

Velje Brdo Substation

In addition to the above, work is underway to establish the necessary conditions for the construction of a further 14 10/0.4 kV facilities in Podgorica. This will cost CEDIS approximately €1.4 million, with the largest share of funding allocated to the construction of the 10/0.4 kV substation under the “Konik – Stari Aerodrom III” DUP.

In addition to the medium-voltage facilities, the municipality of Podgorica is expected to have a new 35/10 kV “Velje Brdo” substation in operation by the end of the year. CEDIS has allocated €1.016 million for its construction. The facility is expected to directly improve the quality of electricity supply for approximately 1,300 customers in the areas of Rogami, Velje Brdo, Vranjske Njive, Miletine Njive, Drezga, Radeća, part of Zagorič and Pirep… Improved supply is also expected for around 300 customers in the areas of Stara Zlatica, Smokovac and Doljani.

Work is also underway, worth approximately €1.3 million, to reconstruct one of the most important supply points in the Capital—“Centar” 35/10 kV substation. Following reconstruction, the quality of electricity supply is expected to improve directly for around 10,000 customers in parts of the city, including Preko Morače, the city centre, Slobode Street, Blocks 5 and 6, Brijeg Morače, Drač and Pobrežje.

Final works are also underway on the refurbishment of four 10 kV overhead lines (“Lijeva Rijeka”, “Mrke Petrovića”, “Dušići” and “Danilovgrad iz Podanja”), which supply certain rural areas of the municipality of Podgorica. Among other things, refurbishment of these four overhead lines includes replacing more than 1,000 poles, resulting in a significantly more stable and reliable electricity supply ahead of the winter season.

During 2020, investments totalling approximately €2.3 million were made through investment projects in the municipality of Podgorica.
