CEDIS closed the previous year with network losses of 11.62 per cent, 0.77 percentage points lower than in 2021, and the lowest annual level of losses ever recorded in Montenegro’s electricity distribution system.
The downward trend in losses continued in December, when a record-low level of 13.03 per cent was also recorded, as much as 1.36 percentage points lower than in the same period of the previous year.

Reducing network losses also lowered the total amount of electricity needed to cover those losses by 22,286 MWh compared to 2021, with a value of around six million euros on the HUPX reference exchange for the period in question.

– By consistently using the existing Billing software systems and the remote meter reading and control system (AMM), we carry out detailed analyses and logical checks of power flows, losses by transformer area, and data collected from metering points. On this basis, we dispatch teams to carry out targeted, organised inspections. The measures taken are producing excellent results: savings compared to 2021 amount to six million euros, while compared to 2020, savings of 37,779 MWh were achieved, worth around 10 million euros on the HUPX reference exchange. By combining existing advanced systems with continuous field operations, we have established a mechanism that will undoubtedly contribute to further reducing losses, namely by detecting and preventing the unauthorised use of electricity. – said Vaso Zeković, Head of the Metering Sector.
The loss rate of 11.62 per cent achieved in 2022 was recorded despite a four per cent increase in electricity consumption compared to the previous year. To provide a more accurate picture of the results achieved, it should be emphasised that, without measures to curb unauthorised consumption on the network, the increase in energy taken from the grid would have been accompanied by stagnant or rising losses; consistent implementation of these measures instead produced the opposite trend.
CEDIS will continue to use all available resources with equal determination to curb the unauthorised consumption of electricity as effectively as possible.
