Reconstruction of the “Centar” Substation Begins

Work on the reconstruction of the 10 kV switchgear at the 35/10 kV “Centar” substation and replacement of the relays in the 35 kV switchgear began today. CEDIS has allocated approximately one million three hundred thousand euros. Following the reconstruction, around 10,000 customers in the parts of the city across the Morača River, the city centre, Slobode Street, Blocks 5 and 6, Brijeg Morače, Drač and Pobrežje can expect a direct improvement in the quality of their electricity supply.

In addition to the many benefits this project will bring to the electricity supply of this highly sensitive part of the Podgorica service area, it will enable CEDIS to respond even more effectively to the demands arising from the rapid growth in the number of customers in this part of the Capital.

– The reconstruction of the 10 kV switchgear will not increase the existing capacity of 3×8 MVA. However, the new switchgear will have a total of 44 10 kV cells, which is a 100 per cent increase compared with the current situation. A total of 35 new 10 kV feeder cells are planned, compared with the current 18. This will allow new 10 kV feeders to be connected, making it possible to accommodate the growth in consumption in this part of Podgorica. The quality of the equipment being installed is of a high standard. This investment will also include the installation of a neutral-point grounding resistor, changing the operating mode of this part of the network from an isolated-neutral to a grounded-neutral configuration, CEDIS explains.

In the previous period, in connection with the “Centar” substation, CEDIS completed a project to install two 35 kV supply cable lines, replacing the existing supply cable from the 110/35 kV “Podgorica 1” substation. Two 35 kV cells were also equipped. The total value of this work was approximately EUR 359,000. Investment work was also carried out to equip one 10 kV cell. Its estimated value is approximately EUR 10,000.

The work will be carried out in phases and, under the contract, is scheduled for completion within seven months of the contractor being given possession of the site, that is, by the end of this year.

In addition to this project, CEDIS is currently implementing projects to build the 35/10 kV “Velje Brdo” substations and construct 10 kV switchgear at the 110/10 kV “Kličevo” substation. Reconstruction of the 35/10 kV “Kumbor” substation is in its final phase, while preparations are under way for the construction of the 35/10 kV “Duklo” substation in Nikšić. CEDIS has allocated approximately EUR 4.3 million for these investments.

At the same time, the Montenegrin Electricity Distribution System is carrying out activities under the second year of projects to rehabilitate the medium- and low-voltage networks in rural areas throughout Montenegro. The value of contracted work on the rehabilitation projects is approximately EUR 26 million.
