Reconstruction of the “Kumbor” Substation in Its Final Phase

Work on the reconstruction of the 35/10kV “Kumbor” substation is entering its final phase. CEDIS has allocated around one million and 800 thousand euros. Following the reconstruction, approximately 2,800 customers in the areas of Đenovići, Kumbor, Zmijice, Kišići and part of Zelenika can expect a direct improvement in the quality of their electricity supply.

The Herceg Novi Municipality area is supplied with electricity by seven 35/10kV substations (“Baošići”, “Klinci”, “Igalo”, Herceg Novi”, “Topla”, “Bijela” and “Kumbor”), as well as the 110/35kV “Herceg Novi” substation. Reconstruction of “Kumbor” will significantly improve the quality and reliability of the electricity supply and ease the load on the entire system, particularly during the summer peak-load period. This investment is an essential infrastructure prerequisite for developing the Kumbor area, which is recognised as a prestigious tourist destination, particularly following the construction of the Porto Novi resort. In addition, reconstruction of “Kumbor” will create opportunities for further network development and the connection of new customers.

The project includes civil works to reconstruct the existing substation building, replacement of the entire 35kV and 10kV switchgear, and installation of transformers (35/10kV, 2 x 12.5MVA). The works are being carried out by Electro Team DOO from Budva, with subcontractors Ekvidistanca DOO from Bar and Europrojekt DOO from Podgorica.

The works are progressing according to schedule, and we expect the reconstructed facility to be operational by the start of the summer season. During the works, particular care is being taken to ensure that the replacement of the switchgear and other activities do not adversely affect the quality of supply to customers in the Kumbor area.

In addition to this project, activities are also underway on the primary network to implement projects for the construction of the 35/10kV “Velje Brdo” and “Duklo” substations, as well as the project to build 10kV switchgear at the 110/10kV “Kličevo” substation. CEDIS has allocated around 4.3 million euros for these investments.

In parallel, the Montenegrin Electricity Distribution System is carrying out activities as part of the second year of projects to rehabilitate the medium- and low-voltage networks in rural areas throughout Montenegro. The value of the contracted works under the rehabilitation projects is approximately 26 million euros.
