VALUABLE AWARDS FOR THE BEST IN THE “ENERGY UNDERLINED IN GREEN” COMPETITION

A committee comprising members of CEDIS, the Institute for Education, the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Region Development, as well as the NGO EKOM, selected the six best projects in the “Energy Underlined in Green” competition.

First place was awarded to the “Sort and Save” project prepared by the “Mirko Srzentić” Primary School in Petrovac.

Second place went to the “Furniture Made from Recycled Materials for Children’s Physical Activities” project submitted by the “Ljubica V. Jovanović – Maše” Public Preschool Institution in Budva, while third place went to the “Compost for the Future – Little Ecologists of Maša Kindergarten” project by the “Maša” Private Preschool Institution in Podgorica.

In addition to the top three, awards were also given to the “Veljko Drobnjaković” Primary School in Risan for its “School Recycling Yard” project, the “Mileva Lajović Lalatović” Primary School in Nikšić for “Schoolyard – An Outdoor Classroom”, and the “Oktoih” Primary School in Podgorica for its “School Organic Eco-Garden” project.

As a reminder, the Montenegrin Electricity Distribution System, in cooperation with the Institute for Education of Montenegro, which implements the International Eco-Schools Programme, announced the “Energy Underlined in Green” environmental protection project competition on 20 September. Educational institutions implementing the International Eco-Schools Programme—that is, those holding the Green Flag international award—as well as institutions that had applied to pilot the Eco-Schools Programme, were eligible to participate. The award fund totalled EUR 15,000.

In accordance with the prescribed criteria, the committee selected six projects that stood out. The participating educational institutions made an effort to meet all the requirements and improve their projects. There were many high-quality submissions, which made the committee’s task more difficult, and small differences determined which ones would place among the top six.

Two submitted projects did not meet the competition’s prescribed criteria and therefore could not be scored.

Given the differences in the creativity and needs of institutions implementing their projects, the budgets of the participating educational institutions were not the same. The committee therefore unanimously decided, as an incentive for future years and the development of new projects, to reward those whose budget was below the permitted amount. Accordingly, after the funds were allocated to the first six projects, the remaining EUR 250 was added to the awards for the “Veljko Drobnjaković” Primary School in Risan and the “Oktoih” Primary School in Podgorica.

Through the “Energy Underlined in Green” project, we aim to raise students’, teachers’ and the community’s awareness of the importance of protecting and preserving the environment. By implementing the project, educational institutions will enable students to take part in solving problems and contribute to improving the environment at a level where tangible results can be seen.

The partners in the “Energy Underlined in Green” project are the Association for Environmental Consulting in Montenegro (ECOM) and the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), which implement the Eco-Schools Programme in Montenegro together with the Institute for Education.
