Although managing the distribution network requires round-the-clock work and full dedication to a job on which the stability of the network and the lives of colleagues in the field depend, these people find time for other activities, too. They have launched an initiative to improve the grounds of the Podgorica 5 substation, which saw 10 lime trees planted on Monday, 13 March. The idea came from Ivan Škerović, an operational power engineering technician in the Network Management Sector, and his colleagues were happy to embrace it.
“We felt the need to enhance the space within the grounds of the 110/10 kV ‘Podgorica 5’ substation, where we spend our working hours, and we hope this is just the beginning. We are not in a particularly attractive location, but that does not mean our immediate surroundings should not be a pleasant place to work and spend time. We used to joke: we are far from the city, so let’s get closer to nature. And we decided to plant lime trees. Why lime trees in particular? Because this magnificent tree, with its fragrant flowers that awaken wonderful feelings in everyone, has a dense crown and is used as an ornamental tree because of its abundant foliage. The lime tree is intoxicating and beautifully enhances the surroundings,” Ivan Škerović, the initiator of this wonderful initiative, vividly explained his idea.
When we asked where they had found the funding for this initiative, they commented with a smile that a united team always finds a way to achieve its goal.
We did, however, learn that the lime trees came from Koman as a gift from the Forestry Inspectorate. The CEDIS Trade Union Organisation’s Technical Sector Branch provided the funds for the soil improver and fertiliser, while colleagues from the Maintenance Sector provided machinery to make it easier to prepare the planting sites for the new home of CEDIS’s lime trees.
The first impression of any organisation is formed upon entering the grounds of its office building, and thanks to these highly beneficial and commendable activities, the grounds of the ‘Podgorica 5 substation’ will soon, we are sure, be truly distinctive.
